Today, more than 70% of critical business applications are still runnning on legacy systems such as IBM or BULL mainframes, IBM iSeries (AS400) or character-based UNIX systems. These reliable platforms have been corporate critical assets for years. Even if they still deliver business functionalities as expected, their UI is limited to green screens.

C-EMS Legacy Publisher connects to these legacy green screen applications and provides new Web 2.0 Ajax-based applications out of them without any additional development effort.

Turning green screens into modern UI has a great value to users, from both productivity and user satisfaction viewpoints.

People used to green screen UI won't be confused as CLP supports all keyboard shortcuts they already use. They will also be able to use modern UI concepts (mouse click, copy/paste, drag and drop) whenever needed.

Overall benefits to users are very important. The following table summarizes CLP benefits when compared to traditional terminal emulators:

Emulator problems

C-EMS Legacy Publisher Solution

Emulators rely on proprietary protocols to access legacy applications. This requires specific administration tasks at the network management level like defining special rules in firewalls and port management, for instance.

C-EMS Legacy Publisher works with the same protocols as any other Ajax application (namely HTTP and HTTPS). No network configuration is required to access new applications.
Emulators cannot be easily integrated with Single Sign-On systems (SSO).

C-EMS Legacy Publisher supports SSO: it allows users to be authenticated and transparently connected to applications.

Emulators cannot be easily integrated within enterprise portals.

Integrating legacy applications into enterprise portals is seamless as C-EMS Legacy Publisher applications are standard Web 2.0 Ajax based applications.

Remote users cannot easily access the legacy systems. Being standard Web 2.0 Ajax-based applications, C-EMS Legacy Publisher applications can be accessed by any distant user without installing any specific software on their desktop.
