| C-EMS Web Clipper |
C-EMS Web Clipper is one of the modules of the Convertigo Enterprise Mashup Server (C-EMS) platform.
Mashups (or composite applications) can be created from existing Web applications. CWC «clips» or captures parts of Web pages and then exposes them as "cliplets". Cliplets components can then be integrated in any portal / mashup technology. This technology is known as "Web Clipping". Application ClippingC-EMS Web Clipper supports "Application Clipping" and not only "Page Clipping". Application Clipping allows users getting answers directly from clipped pages instead of displaying results in a new winodw or new frame.
ClipletsCliplets are created by developers using the Eclipse-based Convertigo Studio. This Studio provides a simple, visual UI allowing selection of Web pages parts to be added into cliplets. The Convertigo Studio also supports definition of «transactions». Transactions allows automation of Web site navigation (like connection to a login dialog box before accessing specific pages) or combining data coming from multiple pages. One of the main benefits of cliplets is that the existing presentation layer is inherited from the existing application and there is no need to redevelop it. However, the inherited presentation can still be tailored to fit with corporate presentation standards. With cliplets, business analysts can can quickly deliver new business functionalities to their users, with reduced development resources. Moreover, as there is no need to understand the internal source code of existing applications there is no need to consume IT resources. Cliplets UI can be optimized so that they can be displayed on mobile devices such as PDAs or smart phones. In this case, existing Web applications can easily be made available to new users, as development time is dramatically reduced when compared to native smart phone programming. Composition of cliplets, mashupsOnce created, cliplets can be reused within various mashup environments like:
